Nothing derails your day — let alone your start to a new year — like a trip to the emergency room. That’s where I ended up last Wednesday when constant pain in both my legs prompted me to consult the nurse advice line… who told me to go to urgent care… who told me to go to the ER.
By that Wednesday morning, I had hit Day 4 of difficulty walking ever since my flight home from The Philippines landed at LAX. Long story short, I got the treatment that I needed at the ER for literally getting back on my feet. I’m doing better now, and I’m remaining mindful of keeping recovery first as I tune back into my regularly scheduled programming with work, grad school, and creative projects. Not to mention staying out of the saddle until I’m physically stable enough to ride my Bonneville again.

5 Friendly Wellness Reminders
Unfortunately! Stephen and I had to postpone our Activating Motion & Emotion improv intensive at The Glendale Room due to my ER visit.
Fortunately! Nearly 14 hours of waiting in ER lobbies and 3 hours of laying in my ER bed provided me with ample time to reflect on my health and taking care of myself. (Yes — a peculiar, silver lining perspective on my un/fortunate situation.)
*In case it might help you too, below are five reminders I told myself for getting to and through my ER visit for the medical care I needed:
1) Cherish your good health. Don’t take it for granted.
2) Listen to what your mind and body are telling you when you’re not feeling okay.
I know — you may not want to hear it. Nonetheless, avoid downplaying or ignoring how unwell you may be feeling.
3) It’s okay to seek help when you’re not feeling okay.
4) If you’ve got health insurance, use it.
5) Advocate for yourself.
You’re still the expert on your own mind and body even when you’re not feeling okay. Don’t be intimidated by medical experts. Tell them what’s wrong and what you need. Helping you is their job.
*Btw ofc, here’s my disclaimer: I’m not a medical doctor. I’m sharing my thoughts for informational purposes only. It’s not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
